Advantages of translating with a Translation memory

A Translation memory (TM) is a database for reusable translation segments (primarily (partial) sentences). When working in a CAT tool, new segments, which always consist of a source-language string and the corresponding target-language string, are saved in the TM. For each new project, the CAT tool compares the new, segmented source text with the existing entries in the TM and provides suggestions for identical or similar segments that can be adapted or directly reused.

Saving of segments at the end of a project

Segments with the following processing status are not saved in the main TM when a project is completed:

• “locked” or “blocked”: These segments are ignored when saving to the main TM at the end of the project.
• “draft”: If there are still segments with this status at the end of a project, the project cannot be finished.
